Speaking of quotes, dpolicar made reference to one from the Narnia books.

He can't remember the exact phrasing, and I can't find it on the web, so I'm giving crowdsourcing it a try.

At one point, the lion says something along the lines of "It is not given for mortals to know the outcome of the path we did not take."

Anyone know what the actual quote is?

Except that Aslan breaks this rule on a couple occasions.

Yeah, dpolicar did then mention the need to fudge omniscient characters when writing fiction. :)

I'm pretty sure it's in Prince Caspian, when Lucy asks Aslan what would have happened if she'd just followed him the first time she saw him, rather than arguing with the older kids and then going with them anyway.
