Just finished an IM conversation with a friend who's visiting Montreal. I was brain-dumping food recommendations at her as fast as I could before her laptop battery died.*

So now, of course, I'd like to go back myself. Even if waiting until spring is perhaps a wiser move.

I think remembering that the bagel places are open 24 hours was what tipped the scales.

*Thanks, as ever, to [livejournal.com profile] sea_bound, who provided some of those restaurant recommendations to me.

I think it's snowed enough to notice on the ground once this winter (3 cm, maybe?), and generally been ridiculously mild (though not quite as mild as in NY or Boston, and a weather blog I like predicts the weather will get cold in eastern North America in the next couple of weeks).

That said, I did actually see snow falling from the sky while I was there, and have to climb over some ice and slush at intersections, neither of which has been the case here yet.

Based on our trip last year, waiting for spring would definitely be a better move. That said, I am definitely going back to hit Forquet Fourchette and Ciderie Michel Jodoin.

Yeah, this has been an abnormal winter, but I think I may have missed my chance. As you said, the predictions are that the weather will get cold in the next couple of weeks.

I actually haven't heard his rave, but I'd like to.

This weekend sounds good, if I can actually get free. People keep telling me about this thing being held in Cambridge, though...

Yeah, I've been a little more cautious about visiting Montreal during the winter ever since finding myself standing on a street corner waiting for a bus at midnight with a nearby time/temperature sign reading -25C. Poor planning on my part, that.

It is!

Say, are you still in the neighborhood? It'd be cool to meet up for lunch or something, sometime, if you are.

Au Pied du Cochon is the favorite restaurant of the head chef at Toque . . . I don't know of a recommendation that could get better than that.

Spring is a good idea, especially since Jean Talon market will be in almost-full swing by then. We are heading up to Montreal at the end of the month for [livejournal.com profile] unabridg's birthday, I believe. A visit to Toque may be in order, but the reviews of Au Pied may cause me to reconsider. *drool* Not enough time, too many restaurants. sigh.

Speaking of which, we really do need to get together for a food outing.

Also, you're welcome (for the list of restaurants).

It's amazing -- fantasy, SF, horror from the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Russia, etc., etc. Two weeks. Definitely one of the highlights of my year every year.

Yeah, I'm out of town next week also, and how much if any of Arisia I'll actually be able to attend is up in the air, but if so it'd be great to connect.

Otherwise, after we're both back in town?

I see he replied already...

Oh! Good call! [livejournal.com profile] bedfull_o_books and stopped by last time we were nearby. Made us wish we were staying in a place with a kitchen!

Absolutely! I'm back in town after next week.

It's 30 degrees Fahrenheit right now. And snowing. But nowhere near negative numbers.

(Also, for mid-afternoon snack we had crepes with brie and green apple, with maple syrup and confectioner's sugar on the side. Oh my gosh. Plotting dinner now.)

There's a facebook group that [livejournal.com profile] novawolf told me about called "A Convenient Truth", celebrating the advantages of global warming. Beach parties in January, running around barefoot, savings on cold-weather clothes...
