I didn't buy any of them, but there were real, honest-to-god fresh mangosteens in the produce markets on Spadina Av. near Dundas St. West in Chinatown on Thursday.

Back in August, the NY Times reported that they were going for $45/pound in Brooklyn. I sense an opportunity for some Chinese grocer...

I thought the reason they're $45 in Brooklyn is that customs won't allow them through? And from their absence in Chinatown, I can only assume that customs is making a decent fist of not letting them in.

Ahhh... I was buying lots of Lien Wu when I was in toronto. Canadian Chinatown's fruit selection is the best. Sadly they caught me at the border trying to bring some home. The worst thing was they wouldn't let me eat my fruit at the station when they caught me-rather than throw it away. :(
