How very odd.

I just had an attack of heartburn strong enough to wake me up.

This is irritating. I've never had this problem before.

The Rolaids seem to be helping.

Urg. Sorry to hear that.

FWIW, Tums are much better than Rolaids. Although I hope you don't ever need them enough to know as much about this as I do. :(

They're both just some base material to neutralize the acid: having taken plenty of both, I see little difference. But, I'm assuming you're not nuts, so would you mind elaborating on how one is better than the other? I'd like to learn.

I generally like the ones that have anti-gas as well, but they're more expensive and usually less strong.

I haven't taken Rolaids in years, so perhaps the formula has changed. However, in my experience the rolaids had a horrible metallic tinge and didn't dissolve very well. They do work on the acid, but because they didn't dissolve as well it was far slower.

I'm now on a Prilosec regimen so I am blessedly not taking too many Tums anymore either.

Sorry to hear. :-(

If this becomes a recurring thing, see a doctor right away to determine if it's curable or what medicine to take for it. In the long term it can cause throat damage, and speaking as someone who has it, believe me, you don't want it.

Prilosec and Prevacid have both been extremely effective for me, Prevacid more so but it's prescription.

Thanks.

Some years ago I had acid reflux, but it was never anything that woke me up. The doctors looked into it, decided I had a mild case, gave me something for it which I took for a while, and it all went away.

This is the first time it's ever woken me up, and the first time I've had any kind of acid reflux in years. Nearly a decade.

Very strange.

Ugh. I hate that. Well, I'm not sure it's ever woken me up before, but usually when I get it, it's because I've woken up in the night. Something about the sitting up and lying back down again can really get to me.

Anyway, I assume it's better now. Hope it didn't keep you up too late!
