From Bomb Squad Blows Up Toy Pony, Terrifying Nearby Grade School:
Because nothing crazy has happened in Florida for almost 20 whole minutes, an Orlando police team decided that the best way to handle a plush toy pony left in a public park was to skip the "lost and found" hassle and just blow it up. The park is immediately adjacent to Waterbridge Elementary School, which police apparently did not consider calling to ask if anyone had lost their toy horse. Fortunately, the Orlando bomb squad waited for camera crews to arrive, so we can all enjoy the exploding toy horse that will surely haunt the children of Waterbridge for many years to come.

Twitter told me about this too (I think it was [personal profile] rmd). It seems hilarious and pathetic.

They thought it was a Trojan, I guess.

A very, VERY small Trojan.

Kids, don't leave your toys at the park if you don't want the bomb squad to blow them up.

LOL! Let's be serious, this is Florida, the kids wouldn't done it if the police hadn't. They just steal some blackpowder from Dad's shotgun shell refilling stock and practice. How do you think the police learned how?

Yes, I had the same thought: there's a town that didn't want anyone to be able to say they hadn't learned from the Trojans!

Ugh.... The terrorists have in fact, won.

I like seeing shit blown up, but this is just stupid.

Don't leave your toys around, don't take pictures, don't look suspicions, submit to the X-ray, take off your shoes, don't look anyone in the eye, papers, please.

The more of this stupid nonsense I see the less respect I have for anyone in any position of authority.

That looked like an expensive toy they blew up, which pained me, because I remember how my grandparents would buy me the fancy toy I had asked for, and while my parents bought me a lot of other stuff, the popular brand-name toys were an expense we were very thoughtful about, when I was small.

So I just wondered what family's kid had left a toy behind, and what they thought when they saw this, and felt sad.

Yeah.

The more of this stupid nonsense I see the less respect I have for anyone in any position of authority.

And it's not like you had a lot of it to start with!

I used to think a lot of the stupidness was a result of conflicting priorities. e.g. we put up with stupid because it fixes some other larger stupid.

But it's become clear that most stupidness is there just because people who should know better, don't, and are in fact just stupid.
