Oh, and with regard to vegetarian poutine...

...hammercock asked me if I knew of any place that served vegetarian poutine. Some digging revealed that Pizza Pita (6415 Décarie, near Plamondon, (514) 731-7482, http://www.pizzapita.com/) is a kosher dairy restaurant serving poutine. I would think their poutine reliably vegetarian.

Incidentally, while I am no authority on this subject, I did also find the following listings in the Jewish Community Council of Montreal website (mk.ca), which folks may find useful:

Bakeries: http://mk.ca/bakeries.html
Caterers: http://mk.ca/caterers.html
Restaurants: http://mk.ca/restaurants.html

*blinkblink* There's kosher poutine?

OK, now I have no excuse not to try it when I'm in Montreal next. Except that...it still sounds kinda icky :)

That's poutine. Sounds icky, tastes great. Although I make no guarantees about the kosher variety. :)

Okay, here is where I display how vague and blurry my memory is.

However, you know that big tourist square? Like, you go east from downtown just past the cathedral and there's that touristey area, and it culminates in that square with all the buskers and stalls and stuff and all the restaurants facing onto it?

At the base of that, across the street, is sort of a little food court area in a weird structure on the waterfront?

There's a fast food stand in there that told me their poutine was 100% vegetarian last time I was there.

It wasn't very *good*, mind you, but it was vegetarian.

Looking at the map, I feel like you must mean Place Jacques-Cartier. I'll have to check out things out over there and see.

Yes, that's the place I'm talking about. There is some actually-good-but-probably-not-veggie poutine to be had at the bottom of the square in the shops facing the waterfront, and there's also a good Beavertail place there. (I recommend the Triple Trip highly.) Across the way there is a place with a food court and a lot of fast-foody food. Some of the food was decent. The poutine wasn't good, but it was veggie. *shrug* There are a whole bunch of places around there that serve poutine, so it may not be the best description I could come up with. :)
