External Zip 750 drive to borrow?

I have all this old data backed up onto a pile of Iomega Zip disks right now, and a Zip 250 drive I inherited in someone else's move. Trouble is, the Zip 250 USB drive is incompatible with versions of Mac OS above 10.2.

I was going to order a Zip 750 drive, until [livejournal.com profile] cmeckhardt suggested I ask around and see if any of my friends had a drive I could borrow for a few weeks. (I have a lot of data.)

If you do have one you're willing to lend, I can come to you to borrow it and to return it later.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, but geography is probably a limiting factor here...

Unless you'll be in Cleveland this weekend? :)

Hmmm.

I was going to Pittsburgh again (only two hours away from Cleveland!), but I wasn't planning on this weekend.

Also, I was hoping to get to Eugene sometime this fall, and I might be able to meet up with you then to return it...but this all sounds like a lot more imposition on you than it's worth.

How long will you be in Cleveland?

Actually, never mind, I checked and I think I gave that machine away. :/ Sorry.

Still, if you feel like dropping by Cleveland Heights sometime between Friday noon and Sunday night, it's still be great to see you. :)

A USB Zip 250 drive worked fine with my Mac OS X 10.5.4 system. Read and write to a Zip 100 disk in the test I just did. And, I know for a fact they work with 10.4 and 10.3. Just plug them in and they go.

That said, I have a Zip 750 drive here in Petaluma. Had you asked two weeks ago I could have loaned it to you while I was out there!

There must be something wrong with the drive I inherited, then. It lights up, but refuses to mount anything. I've tried a number of disks and both USB ports.

Had you asked two weeks ago I could have loaned it to you while I was out there!

Alas!

Also, you have heard of the "click of death", right?

[identity profile] r-ness.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I have. I have even heard the actual "click of death".

Fortunately, not with any of my disks. *fingers crossed*

Would you believe that I might have oe of these upstairs in my crazy room full of crap? I know there's a zip drive up there, I'm just not sure it's a 750. Though it sounds like a 250 would work for you as well.

Anyway, if you can help me find it, then you can have it. Really, considering the state of that room, is it any surprise that I have some "old data backed up onto a pile" myself?

We have a ton of old zip drives in the lab -- i'm not there today but i can check tomorrow and see if any of them are 750. If so you can totally borrow one.

Well, i've looked all over the lab and i don't think we have a 750. Just a lot of 100s and a few 250s...
