The question is not "is he smart enough?", but rather "is he smarter than the last guy?".

Well, to be fair, the conversation's context was the problems he's now going to have to deal with, and whether he'll turn out to be up to them.

It seems fortunate that the last guy doesn't get another chance at some of these problems.

Obama's come into a pretty nasty set of circumstances. Now we do indeed see if he can manage them. But I don't think his intelligence is the issue. With his lack of experience, as much as I do like him, he really is a black box. We shall see.

Sometimes I wonder if smartness is really the important thing. Perhaps more importantly, is he enough of a leader? Is he charismatic enough? Is he enough of a diplomat?

I am hopeful the answer to all those questions is YES
