Wouldn't the driving directions involve some sort of motor vehicle? Kayaking seems more analogous to cycling, to me.

Alas, they don't seem to change that between walking and driving directions. Even if you're walking they expect you to conjure up a kayak when you reach the ocean.

The other thing that occurred to me was that must be a rather large kayak, if it can carry my car...

I know for a fact there's a kayak rental place in Seattle where it says to enter the Pacific ocean. Call me when you get there and I'll come down to see you off.
