Jan. 4th, 2011 08:42 pmH-Mart's opening has really caused the Market Basket next door to raise its game. They took over the former EXPO Design Center and doubled their size by moving into that space.
H-Mart is a mostly bi-coastal Korean supermarket chain. Like most Asian supermarket chains, it has a large and varied produce section. Typical of Korean grocers is its extensive array of pickled vegetables.
Market Basket is a local supermarket chain. The new store has a much larger produce section and now carries a wider variety of Asian foods.
Yet another reason to celebrate the arrival of more Asian supermarkets.

Date: 2011-01-05 05:54 am (UTC)different source. There's just no way that the fish at the fish counter could ever produce the stuff in the sushi counter.
H Marts fish section is fantastic. You could likely get decent enough cuts for sushi there
outside of the separate sushi section, but it would be pretty random what would qualify from day to day.
Laugh at what I say next, but my most used sushi-quality fish source these days is *Costco*. About 75% of the time I can get a full salmon side out of their fish
section, most of which is useable for sashimi. Slightly smaller hit rate on their
ahi tuna, but still damned decent. Less often some fluke or turbot. Mmm. usuzukuri...
Must go back to H mart soon. I want to make some gefilte fish, and there's nowhere else I'm going to be able to walk in and get carp, whitefish, and pike.
