While I'm thinking of social networking sites, here's a question:

Various friends have contacted me via private message to my Facebook account. For obscure and arcane reasons--possibly having to do with the way I attempted to get access to my Facebook account while in places that block access to Facebook--I have had trouble with Facebook ever since returning.

I attempt to reply to these friends via normal, external email, and it's like dropping a rock into a black hole. Zip, over the event horizon, never to be heard from again.

Is this a thing with heavy Facebook users? Or just those particular friends? There seems to be a population which uses Facebook for everything and no longer looks at their email. Or something.

I don't know, man. I'm not a heavy Facebook user by any means, and e-mail is still my primary form of communication, but I could just be a dinosaur.

If they're not using gmail, it's possible that their email is spam-logged. I seldom get into my obscure account anymore, and when I do, it's junkmail-riffic. (I could fix this, but I'm frankly too lazy...)

I have numerous colleagues and friends who are doing the same thing, and I find it highly annoying, as I don't like writing emails from FB.

Yes, I am seeing this with many of the theater folks. Just like you have to remember who uses the phone, who uses text, etc. you now have to recall that the only way to get in touch with certain people is FB only.
