...but anyone else struggling with the new MBTA's new bus and Green Line fareboxes will probably appreciate the CharlieCard / Ticket general discussion topic on railroad.net. http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27994&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=780 is as good a place as any to start.

"We spent 10 minutes loading at BU Central at 10 am on Saturday Morning. Yes, I timed it."

"It took 45 minutes to get from Chiswick to Copley today. That's normal, but it's not normal when you've gone express between Washington and Harvard, and then from Packard's Corner to BU Central. It took something like 30 seconds for the TAP reader to complete its cycle today, a senior stepped on ahead of me, used it, and then I had to stand there and wait for the yellow light to turn green before I could insert my subway pass. Is this normal?"

"What's scarier is knowing this will be an ongoing problem on the B-line for the foreseeable future since most students will be using Charlietickets next semester. If I were you, I'd consider walking to the C-line if you have the time."

and finally this exchange:

"The small slot [on the fare box] is partly to convince people that they should pay with the CharlieCard, which results in faster boarding, savings for the user, and savings for the T versus cash handling from the fareboxes at night."

"The "no cash" rule is negative from the daily user point of view, though I understand that the T is trying to save money by making this as difficult as possible so that people will simply stop taking the T so they can close it down altogether and just have SUVs with Transit Police eating donuts at random street corners throughout the city ..."
