My impression is that the contradiction is worse than that. Heretofore the recieved wisdom in nutrition was that you should never skip breakfast because doing so increased calorie intake. Now they're saying "Whoops, no, that's not true."

I really have no position on whether either theory is correct, because it doesn't seem like the nutrition researchers know enough to have a consistent position. But the quote is evidence that the nutrition researchers realize they have a problem.
