...but mine somehow managed.

Removing the battery and disconnecting then reconnecting the power got it back to a place where it would reboot.

Not happy about losing my work, though.

yeah they can. and removing the battery and rebooting is the only option.

though i've only ever had it happen in process of shutting down, so i haven't lost any work. fingers crossed. i usually then make backups and scan for viruses. not exactly the right sequence to do that in, I suppose, but on the principle of 'that was a close one, i should make sure it wouldn't be catastrophic if it happened and didn't wake up again"

I installed the new Firefox yesterday, and it's crashed four times already...I wonder if that could be an issue?

Weird -- obviously you don't actually have a Mac, since those are perfect, never crash, cure cancer and smell like lilacs.

Are you using 10.5? I noticed when I installed it on my computer that the apple doesn't show up when it boots anymore. It's a blue screen...and it freaked me out.
