I think (most) people who take music seriously are less likely to take a difference of musical opinion personally than people who take politics seriously are likely to take a difference of political opinion. So I think you've chosen well there.
For similar reasons I chose food; people may decide I'm an idiot who lacks taste, but they won't want to slap me across the face over food choice. Well, most sane people won't, anyway. :)
