People in shared accomodation so rarely clean dryer lint filters.

I've noticed that and the only people I share accommodations with are my husband and son, one of whom I wouldn't necessarily expect to clean the lint filter yet.

I would almost be guilty of that, except that I clean it before I run the dryer. I mean, how else do you know the filter is clean and your clothes will dry as rapidly as possible?

My wife never cleans it. It's one of those things I've come to just accept as easier to just compensate for rather than attempt to get compliance on. (It does sometimes worry me when she does several loads in a row and there's pretty much an entire animal on the filter after. How bad does it have to get to cause a fire? I have no idea. But I do most of the laundry, so that comes up only rarely.)

Yeah, amongst other things they can pawn off on other folks.

This puzzles me as well. I want my clothes to be dry, now.

And that leaves aside the fact that it costs more if you're paying by the minute.

How bad does it have to get to cause a fire?

That is an excellent question.

From your answer and epi_lj's, below, I'm guessing it's just luck that I'm with people who share my opinion about lint filters.
