Today I'm reading the obituaries for Jeb!'s campaign. It's hard not to feel some sympathy for the guy. But I can't help thinking people should have given me a hundred million dollars instead. I'd have found much better ways to waste that money than he did.

I'm reminded of, but cannot find the actual source of, the quote from some English footballer who'd made a lot of money in his career but at the time of the interview he was essentially poor. Asked what had happened to the money he said that the majority had gone to "birds and booze; the rest was wasted."

("birds" being slang for women, in case you were wondering.)

I've read that "birds" has a distinct connotation of promiscuousness.

There's a "game" where each player is given a certain amount of funny money. Then the bank puts $100 in a pot in the center, and each player in turn adds money to their bid for the pot. When all the players refuse to raise their bids, the winning bid gets the $100 -- but the bank gets all the bids.

I'm not a native UK speaker so can't comment from personal knowledge. Online slang dictionary says "attractive woman" (http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/bird) and Wiktionary says "sexually attractive" (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bird). That's the sense in which I've heard it.
