There are a lot of obvious peroxide blondes here (Riga). Like "hey! roots!".

There are also a lot of women here who are clearly not natural redheads. Really unnatural red colors, but not intentionally weird. Clearly they are trying for a natural effect, but not achieving one.

Even some of the black-haired people look like they have dye-jobs, but I could just be seeing it in everyone now.

None of this is a value judgment, mind. Just observation.

hm, yeah. You see the peroxide blondes all over the Midwest, too. But they usually don't bother to do their eyebrows or body hair, which is a dead giveaway.

BTW, somewhere recently I read that over two-thirds of *high school girls* in the US color their hair in some way!

In my case, I use henna, but it really just brightens up my natural hair color, and I have the right skin and eyes for the red (and, um, the rest of my hair is the right tone anyway...)

It's really sad that people would rather be a "trying to be blonde" (or redhead) than let their nice dark hair grow sleek and shiny as it is. I am very fond of dark hair (on other people; it would look *strange* on me!) ...

There are a lot of godawful red colors in the haircolor section, I noticed the other day. Really bright, really shocking. Colors that, truthfully, don't exist in nature. And in a whole different way than, say, Manic Panic.

Seriously. Some of these red colors are so unnatural that one might as well go for violet, or green.

I did see someone with intentionally non-natural hair color, but she may have been a tourist.

>it looked kind of cool after a while. but it's a look.

Definitely. I actually have a friend with a similar look. I'm all about intention, so if it's a look people are actually going for, that's cool.

I think the interesting thing for me with regard to hair dye is noticing the differences in what's acceptable or desirable dress and appearance.
I recently had a conversation about how so much is arbitrary and culturally determined. Six inches off a skirt, for example, can radically alter what people think of the person wearing it; but it's also clear that those same six inches can mean very different things depending on where the wearer is.

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them! I actually have more local ones (NY, NJ, CT, MA, RI) but I'm trying to clear my backlog before adding places I can get back to more easily. And I'm always looking for suggestions from other people. It's how I find a lot of these places, and now that I'm actually doing write-ups people like to show me new places to eat.
