Oh dear. Um, you have been defrauded here. (So was one of my students, earlier this quarter.) This is NOT a work of history; Mr. Durant, writing around the turn of the 20th century, basically created a work of historical fiction, using the basic (much less detailed facts) of the Roman banking crisis. There was NO Seuthes and son, no Brothers Pettius, no Maximus and Vibo, no Publius Spinther, etc....they never existed. I can explain the Roman banking crisis if you want, but it has a lot more to do with government manipulation and hoarding and is not really that reflective of modern circumstances.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is a false meme that's been going around the Net for a while.
