Khaosan Road...

...is an amazing example of the effects of mass backpacker tourism. The whole street is a tourist alley, but of the dreadlocks and batik brigade.

Bizarre occurrence was turning on the radio and hearing a cover of "One Night in Bangkok" being played on FM 90 here.

Write-up of Bei Otto, a German restaurant here in Bangkok, to follow.

Oh, WOW :)
I'd love to get to Thailand. How long was the flight?

[identity profile] r-ness.livejournal.com 2003-08-08 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see...fourteen hours from New York to Tokyo, followed by a four hour layover in Tokyo, then six and a half from Tokyo to Bangkok...which makes it a little over a day, total.

Whew.

Thankfully, yes.

Having to do this for work on a regular basis could get to be a serious drag.

One flight to Bangkok, makes a hard girl humble...

I spent 27 hours getting there between plane changes and layovers routed through Chicago and Seol three years ago.

Hey, r-ness, I don't know how structured your time there is, but if you get a chance, take a night train to Chang Mai for 15 bucks and then find someone to take you hiking in the jungle or biking from village to village. HIGHLY worth your time. (You can hire them all up and down the tourist strip.)

Hi Karen!

(Good Subject: line. :) )

Good to hear from you! I wanted to get together when I went through DC last time but I didn't have your contact info handy. :(

Anyway, the Thai friends I'm travelling with (and am, at this moment, sitting next to) just happen to be from Chiang Mai, so there's definitely a possibility of my going with them up north. However, timing may be an issue because they're leaving on a birthday trip for their mom (they're going to Darjeeling, whee!) next week.
