I've had people help me out and try to make things better though I haven't really noticed being harassed for my race in a very very long time. Though, like my ex-NewYorker inability to notice homeless people the same might be said about asian-Chineseness.
Although I still laugh because when I talked to Chinese people about living in America, they always ask me about Black on *everyone* crime. It took me a while to explain that American media is just racist that way.
