Valentine's Day in Bangkok.

randomnessThe Thais seem to have embraced this very Western holiday. There are all the traditional things you see in the States on Valentine's Day: special events at restaurants, florists doing booming business, pink and white balloons in all sorts of places, and plenty of chocolate.
However, younger Thais seem to have added their own twist on the day. From what I read in the papers, it appears to have been adopted by teens as National Lose Your Virginity Day.
This has older Thais up in arms, and the conservative government has started a purity campaign to convince young people, women particularly (yes, it's that kind of campaign) to preserve their virginity, with about the results you'd expect.
Naturally, the younger folks are telling them what they can do with that, and apparently guesthouses and hotels do great business today, as well.
