First (and therefore very superficial) impressions of Sydney, for North Americans.
"Vancouver, expanded to the size of Toronto, but with warmer, sunnier weather."
Although this morning is warmish, damp, and overcast, almost exactly like a Vancouver August, I'm told this isn't usual.
The similarities with Canadian cities are really striking. I don't know if this is specifically a Sydney thing or if it's true of most Australian cities, but I imagine I'll find out.
Also, Sydney has a lot of bits that look like bits of South African cities, but without the effects of a massive security problem.
