Speaking of Tokyo...

...anyone have any recommendations for a pleasant, (relatively) cheap place to stay in Tokyo. Cheap meaning less than 10,000 yen per night, please.

Okay, stop laughing.

I want to try a capsule hotel sometime but I don't know that this visit is the right time, because I get in at 7AM and I leave two days later at 11AM. So, maybe I should have somewhere to base out of and put my bags.

Also, I just saw Lost in Translation on the flight from Sydney. It really just made me miss Tokyo at just the right time (four days before arriving there). Somewhat ironic, since the characters are having such a terrible time there.

At one point I remember thinking, "Gee, must be nice to have enough money to stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo."

So, one of my newer hair-brained schemes is to visit Tokyo for a two week or so vacation, and spend the entire time lodging in a capsule hotel, and living exclusively off of things that I can get out of vending machines. (I suppose I'd at some point explore the nutritional value of used ladies under-garments...) Hopefully, I'll still be sane by the end of the experience, but if not, well, we all know it was inevitable.

Anyway, the point of this is that if you were to stay in a capsule hotel (and I dearly hope you do) I'd like to request a thorough as possible write-up of the experience, as I'd like to be as well prepared for the Super Happy Fun-Time Vacation Fantastico as can be reasonably expected.

Cheers,
Colby

So, I too really want to stay in a capsule hotel, although doing so for two weeks is pretty ambitious. (I think customarily they throw you out every morning and you have to come back in the afternoon and re-register, for one thing, although as I haven't stayed in one I can't say for sure.)

How's your Japanese? If you do spend two weeks doing this you'll meet a lot of drunk salarymen... :)

I'll be glad to write up the experience if I do stay in one this time, but seeing as the cheapest one I've seen so far is still more expensive than two of the traveler hostel places I'm looking at, I think I'll save it for another time. We'll see, though. I might do it the last night, because I think capsule hotels come with their own alarm clocks, and I need to be back at the airport for an morning flight.
