Thoughts of the last twenty-four hours. (from Monday, April 18th, at 7:30PM)

Road-tripping with [livejournal.com profile] mysticysm is so much fun that left to our own devices we might end up driving all the way to California.

Ten PM Sunday is not a late enough hour for the Cross Bronx to be reliably fast, although you can get lucky.

The view from the George Washington Bridge at night is stunning.

Jim's on South Street closes at ten on Sundays.

Ninth and Passyunk is south of Washington, not north.

Never seen two cops standing guard side-by-side in a Wawa's before.

U. S. 29 is empty at 3AM Monday.

Four hours of sleep is not really enough.

The Silver Spring Tastee has about three times as much seating since the move.

Whoever invented the video bus deserves to die a slow, painful death.

What is that abandoned riverboat on the Raritan, just east of the NJ Turnpike?

That temple in Edison has a very bright dome.

Why can the Brazilians and the Thais do a better job of organizing a bus terminal than the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey?

O-musubi place on 45th just east of Grand Central! Yay for new restaurant finds!

$18.50 to get from Grand Central to New Haven? I only paid $20 to get from Silver Spring to New York!

What are Virginia Railway Express railcars doing up here in New Haven?

My parents' hometown needs more sidewalks.

My recollection is that ConnDOT bought them from VRE when they needed new cars for Shore Line East, and didn't bother taking the time to get them repainted.

Makes sense. It was a little odd to ride in one during the afternoon when my day had started near VRE territory; it made me feel as if I should just have ridden all the way up the NECorridor in one. :)

Guess VRE overestimated ridership and bought too many cars?

Buses are cheap (I just bought two round-trip tickets New York to Boston for a total of $56), and I'm trying not to think too much about the greater comfort of trains.

What is o-musubi?

Yah, having now experienced a nice long-haul bus system, I am spoiled for Greyhound.

O-musubi are also called o-nigiri, I think, and are the usually but not always triangular Japanese rice-balls. I think I'll do a write-up of the place, actually.

Yah, I think we discovered we travelled well together when I went to visit her in Florence a couple of summers ago, and we did a short circle around the area by rail. Then we did some driving together and that worked well.

So this time, when both our weekends were busy while she was visiting New England, I proposed driving back down the Northeast Corridor with her in her car at the end of her visit. I'd get back on my own somehow.

It was fun!
