I've eaten all four: there's not much similarity between the mangosteen and the lychee/longan/rambutan. The taste is not as delicate: it's more straightforwardly sweet+tart. The texture is completely different: it's not the verging-on-slimy feel of the lynchee(etc) at all. The mangosteen sections have a mouth-feel that's about halfway between citrus and a non-mealy pear.
