Some more links on the O'Rourke's fire.

WFSB Channel 3's story: http://www.wfsb.com/news/9767242/detail.html

An essay from a Wesleyan alum some of us know: http://mediaboy.livejournal.com/173161.html. It begins:

O'Rourke's Diner, 1946-2006

O'Rourke's Diner in Middletown, Connecticut burned down this morning.

That shouldn't mean much to you, but I feel like a lost a family member right now.

About halfway through my freshman year of college at Wesleyan, a group of about 5 of us decided on a Sunday night to hit O'Rourke's at 7:00 am the next morning.

We kept going every Monday until we graduated.

I've never heard of this place, obviously, but that LJ story you linked to made me all sniffly. I'm really sorry it burned down. :(

Yeah, as the author said in his disclaimer (http://community.livejournal.com/wesleyan/286567.html), "I work in TV news, so I write about burning buildings all the time. This is the first one that's made me cry."

:(

:(

You went to Wesleyan?

I spent a fair bit of time there at the medieval house. I dated a couple of straight roommates... Josh and, um, oops. I forgot the other one's name. :/ How embarrassing!

You went to Wesleyan?

I didn't, but my then SO went there, and I lived with her there for years while she was an undergrad. And then I got a job there, and was asked to join a co-ed fraternity there, which I did. So my connection to the place is pretty close.

I remember Medieval House, and I have an idea of which Josh you might have dated.

Small world, eh?

Yeah, small world. :) How's life for ya?

Life's busy, but good...

Wait, was this [livejournal.com profile] sionnagh?

Hey, I write for Wesleying, and I was wondering--What's Medieval House?? We don't have such a thing anymore, at least not by that name.

I write for Wesleying,

Cool! Hey, thanks for blogging about O'Rourke's; I was really glad to get news on that from you guys.

I was wondering--What's Medieval House??

Yah, I think it's been gone a long time, really.

Medieval House was a program house on Lawn Ave., across from the Butts. I'm not sure what's currently housed in the building it used to be in.

This is a death in the family. Oh man.

OMG!!! NO!!!
I remember many a sunrise followed by a hearty "He Man" steak and eggs. :( Taht was before the weight watchers, o'course.

I'm a Medieval House quasi-alum too, Sionnagh. You mustabeen before my time. I'm Pantsie's sister. :) You were probably there when she was.

Man. O'Roukes. I never got to take my kid there! ARG!
