As a public service, I offer the following links:
Oh, and then there's Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobster_roll

(I just had one here in Connecticut, so I figured I'd post a poll. The dividing line seems to be Connecticut and south for butter, Massachusetts and north for mayonnaise. I'm not sure what the preference is in the Maritimes. There's a lot of overlap, and some places offer both. Heck, D'Angelo's franchises, even on the Mass Pike, serve both, although I haven't dared try one yet.)

Huh. Me, I have no stake in the accuracy of the term (Florida girl = me)...I just can't imagine lobster sans butter!

I don't know! I've never had their lobster roll. But they have the best fried shrimp. And the rest of their food is pretty darn good, too. So I can't imagine that they go wrong with the lobster roll.

You'll have to come visit me and go eat there. :)

I'm not sure I've ever actually eaten a lobster roll. I just see them make it on the Food Network with mayonnaise.

I want one though. And I'm willing to try either type.

They're tasty!

Try both. It's the only way to decide which you like better. If you're out here, I'll be glad to offer recommendations.

Mary's. Mayo. Did I mention there's a Brooklyn (Mary's) Fish Camp achingly close to my apartment?

Actually, I'd totally be up for a Boston lobsterganza when I'm up there at the end of June. Mac's first lobster roll!

We went at 7:30 on Saturday with a party of 4 (us, plus Dad and stepmom) and had to wait, like, 20 minutes. Not too bad. And we don't go that often -- expensive both in dollars and points!

I read the wikipedia article. My. I'd not have imagined something like that being a lobster roll. I was thinking something sushiesque.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmlobster.

i actually have no idea what legal's puts in their lobster roll except that it's more like mayo than like butter, and it's addictive as heck.

butter is definitely wrong. i must be from MA.

I HATE mayo, so I thought that I would never have a lobster roll, but the one at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston is made with vinagrette on a grilled potato hot dog roll. SOOOOO good.
