I'm an advocate of self-awareness--the unexamined life, and all that--but it shouldn't lead you to a constant state of self-consciousness.

Worse yet is confusing it with self-absorption or self-centeredness.

I'm pretty sure that I've explicitly said that the ideal state of being is highly self-aware but only a tiny bit self-conscious.
