One of the advantages of flying Air Canada on this trip was that even its little Brazilian regional jets had a wide selection of movies to watch. I like to watch movies from and about the places I'm about to go to, so I picked the one under "Canadian movies", which turned out to be Radiant City, a film about suburban sprawl whose title is a nod to Le Corbusier's La Ville radieuse. I thought of [livejournal.com profile] progscholar in particular as I watched.

I never got to finish it because the flight was too short, so I never did get to the surprise at the end. Which is sad, because apparently it's only been released on DVD in Canada, and it's nearly C$30 on amazon.ca.

I can offer you the trailer, however, and ask if any of you have heard of it or seen it.

“people who live in suburbia know backwards and forwards the critique of suburbia, yet they still live in the suburbs”

I'm making a guess here, but something that looks like it would be "the surprise at the end" is contained in the wikipedia entry.

Yeah, I figured that was the spoiler, so I deliberately didn't link to the wikipedia article. :)

The IMDB link doesn't give anything away until you link through to the comments, so I figured that was better.

I've seen it and posted a brief review sometime, but finding it is possibly a lost cause. Suffice it to say that I was disappointed. It doesn't really present any new information, and I felt betrayed by the so-called "surprise ending" that I presume is given by the wikipedia entry.

Yeah, I'm certainly not interested in paying $30 for it. But I thought it was better than the usual in-flight fare, although perhaps I'd feel differently if I'd seen it through.

The ending really did ruin the whole experience for me.

I'm oddly proud that my folks just painted their house colonial bright colors... teal-green with white and a burgandy door.
It's one of only 2 houses that stand out in a development of about 130.

well, netflix doesn't carry it YET, but does recognize that it exists, which is always a good sign.
