What does "creepy" mean to you?

Creepy is something that makes my hair stand on end, (well, not my head hair, but the hair on my arms...)
It's something that simultaneously makes me look away yet want to look at the same time.

It's seeing or hearing or feeling something that leaves a little touch of slime on your soul, something that says to your pineal gland, "Keep this in your line of sight, but walk away, slowly..."

"Creepy" is a misapplication of "charming".

Depends on what I'm using the word to describe.

Creepy is a smile a little wider than normal and eyes that seem to illuminate from within.

Creepy is the potential for bad.
Like the Joker's smile.

Creepy is when you know something is wrong, but can't quite figure out what it is or what is making you uneasy. This can cover a number of things, like [livejournal.com profile] woodwardicon's chamring example, which I find particularly creepy!

That I'm picking up on something disturbing but I don't know what it is.

These are all lovely and deep and perceptive, and maybe I'm simple-thinking. But to me, "creepy" always triggers one thought -- sexual predator.

Other things might be scary, or disturbing, or trigger caution. But creepy is always undefinably predatory, like that friend of your dad who you don't want to be left alone with, or the coworker who stands a little too close.

Or, you know, [livejournal.com profile] woodwardicon.

I agree. In fact, my sister once used the term "creepy eyes" to describe the way a very predatory man looked at her.

When yer instinct kicks in- it's that *somethings not quite right* feeling in the pit of yer stomach that says "get away from THAT"... something that's a pre-cursor to danger.
Examples of things I find creepy:
-suction cup people, you know... they latch on a won't let go, they want to know ALL about you in this intense way and invade yer personal space.
-masterbaters on public transportation... anything with an air of "sexual preditor"
-pan handlers that follow you
-people that hit on you and don't "get the hint" to back the hell off.
-any stranger that follows you
-dark parking garages that are empty with blinking light bulbs
-clowns, I find clowns unbearably creepy.

Hope that helps.

I think that it's hard to give a usefully specific answer without context. An unusefully vague answer would be that it means, "bad, with a side of twisted" or something like that. (?)

Two words
