I blush to admit, I answered my own question by clicking on the Christie's link r_ness provided. The headline on the web article describes it as a 20-sided die. But thanks for answering my question!
Hrmph. Can anyone identify the symbols on the die?
Could they be astrological, perhaps? The circle with a dot in the center is the astrological symbol of the Sun, and the "v"-shaped symbol on one of the adjacent sides might be Aries. I'm not, however, sure how far back the current set of planetary and zodiacal symbols goes. Certainly to the Middle Ages, but I don't know how much further than that.
