I think back to some of the conversations I've had, and some of the things I've said, and it really does make me wince. I've said some remarkably stupid things in my day.

Oddly enough I find this encouraging. Not only does it mean I'm unlikely to say things which are that stupid in that way again (although it's certain that I will find plenty of new ways to sound dumb), but it also makes me think I'm actually learning something, as I actually see why what I said was silly.

Or perhaps I'm getting more deluded in my dotage. Who knows? :)

That is an optimistic way of looking at it, certainly.

There are kinds of mistakes, including stupid things I've said, that I don't think I'll make again, too. I hope there are fewer new mistakes out there.

There's an endless variety of mistakes. But I think I'm spotting more of them. Sometimes, I even spot them before I make them!

The price of making progress is being aware of myself as having once been worse than I am.
I frequently have to remind myself that this is a good thing.
I don't always believe it.

Yeah, I feel that way a lot, too.

On the third hand, though, perhaps it's just a matter of never remembering what one learns. :(

Ooo... I do like that way of looking at it. It's good to be able to learn from past mistakes. *grins*

I know this feeling well. There are a few things I've said and done that, whenever I happen to think about them, give me a strong urge to find a large rock to crawl under.
