In a word, the adapters suck. And someone sued. So now, if you've bought a replacement 65W power adapter for your PowerBook or iBook when your original one died, you can get cash back. Your power adapter must have failed within the first 3 years following the initial retail purchase of the computer, and you must have purchased a replacement adapter.

The class action settlement website is here: http://www.gordonvapple.rosenthalco.com/index.html

The pdf listing the configuration codes (the last three characters of the serial number) is at: http://www.gordonvapple.rosenthalco.com/pdfs/ACG_EX1_web_080922.pdf

FAQ on the settlement is at http://www.gordonvapple.rosenthalco.com/faq.html

Depending on when you bought the adapter, you can get from $25 to $79.

Good luck.

Edit: Note that the deadline for adapters purchased on before 14 October 2008 is 11 February 2009. If you bought one after that, you must file within 120 days of the adapter failure, or 31 May 2009, whichever is earlier.

Heh. But the two that died within 3 years were replaced for free by apple care -- the one that i paid for died after that... (Yes, i'm on my 4th adapter... and it's held together by electrical tape...)
