I was just conversing in facebook comment thread about this issue, specifically in reference to the mayor of Portland, OR. (May have been involved with a 17 yo boy whom he was theoretically mentoring, in case you missed the news.) Abusing your responsibility when there is a significant power disparity in the relationship is what gets me, much more than the age difference. I do allow for the possibility of a mature relationship existing between an older man and a younger woman, or vice versa, or vice vice, or versa versa, but it's not the norm. However, it's much more likely that a 30-something individual who hits on high-school students still has the emotional maturity/security of a 17 year-old. Ew indeed.
