Why do I continue to crave raw beef? I mean, I've had it twice in the last week and I still want it.

(Mmmm...kitfo.)

Thank you, thank you very much. No raw beef craving here, but now you've started an ethiopian food craving. And as far as I know the nearest ethiopian restaurant is 80 miles away. So yeah, thanks. :)

Nope, it wasn't. I actually didn't get there until 8:30, and the place was nearly empty by then.

That's a good guess. Another similar thought would be to wonder if you consistently eat something particular on the beef - like a sauce, or a spice - that might have some vitamin or mineral you're craving.

The phrase "crave raw beef" leads me to think of a certain SCAdian back at Wesleyan fishing a styrofoam tray of grayish hamburger out of the back of the fridge, nonchalantly wadding it up into balls with his fingers, and eating it as a TV-watching snack. I'll be happy to name names privately, if you don't know who I'm talking about (hint: Hrothgar).

I will reference your SO's post above about Ethiopian food.

If you don't like raw kitfo they will cook it for you. In fact, in this country you have to specify you want it raw or they'll cook it by default.

Hrothgar had many odd habits. That was hardly the most alarming one. For me, the most alarming ones included a compound bow.

I was noshing on some raw beef the other day too! I've got a butcher that I go to here whose beef is amazing - I was in the other day while they were taking apart a side of beef in the shop. When I was cooking some of that beef later, slicing it to stir-fry with a hot Korean sauce, some of the rosy slivers were irresistible, like William Carlos Williams' plums in the icebox - delicious, so sweet and so cold.

Craving raw beef is not, in and of itself, a big problem. However, if you start finding that people are smelling good in a way that they never did before, then you may have an issue.

Now, if you come out here, there's a place in my town, Petaluma, with fantastic carpaccio. :)

This might sound strange, but are you anemic? I always crave beef when I'm anemic. And when I give it up for Lent, darnit!!!! =)
