I have gotten two calls from Costa Rica in the last week. They show up as:

+506.2212.2668

+506.2200.4702

As far as I know, no one I know has those numbers. They leave no messages.

A search on the internet for phone spammers reveals nothing. It does confirm that Costa Rica went to eight digit numbers last year, so these appear to be valid numbers.

I don't really want to call them back.

Any ideas?

Edit: I love the intartubes. I just got more phone spam (this time from within the States) and while the phone was ringing I looked up the number to verify that it had been reported as a spamming number.

Probably wrong numbers on their part.

How did you look up the number to find out if it's spam? I keep getting telemarketers on my mobile phone...and I'd like them to stop calling me!

Oh, it's great! So, let's take the example I just looked up: 850 386 1643.

If you google for the string "850 386 1643", you get a page full of sites, starting with whocalled.us. This is pretty much a dead giveaway, because if there's nothing but a page of people trying to figure out who this was, instead of a business number, or even no phone number listings at all (compare to "750 386 1643", for example, whose first page of google results is a jumble of random links) you can pretty much conclude this is a number from which phone spam originates.

From there it's almost unnecessary to look at the links, but sometimes I do just to satisfy curiosity.

Which reminds me, I should add my report of their spamming me.

Hope that's useful!
