OTOH, it's hard for him to run (if they've got his money locked up), his job skills are very valuable but only in a very narrow industry.

Point. But only if they do have his all money locked up. If I were him, I'd have a stash of Krugerrands or something stored somewhere safe, and a minion with boltcutters to take the monitor cuff off. But that's me ... he might have been too cocky to think he'd ever get caught.

Prosecutors had asked that Mr. Rajaratnam be placed in custody, arguing that he was a flight risk. They said that he had the means to leave the country, noting that he owned property in Sri Lanka and Singapore.

Judge Richard J. Holwell ordered home detention and electronic monitoring for Mr. Rajaratnam.

Someone who answered the phone at Mr. Rajaratnam’s home and would only describe himself as a family friend expressed surprise at the verdict. Mr. Rajaratnam “was confident that nothing would happen,” he said

The government put at $63.8 million the amount in illegal profits and avoided losses Galleon realized through the scheme.

That's really not a lot of money when you're in that business. (Especially given the gov't is likely to be overestimating.) How could it be worth it?
