The people I'm thinking of who do this are really outwardly flirtatious, chivalrous and polite, which is what you notice first about them... and yet they're hard to get to know more deeply, and it takes some time to realize _that_. Does that help at all?

They're sweet and giving in response to a defined need, but refuse to let their partner into their inner life, express any needs of their own, etc.
