Informative article from the blog of the Museum of Sex in Manhattan on the internal structure of the clitoris, including two attractive computer graphics.
why there seemed to be more MtF transpeople in the greater social cloud than FtM (I'm not even sure that's accurate, but it was a widely-held impression).
I suspect it's all about visibility. In my experience, MtF transpeople are more conspicuous, whereas the FtM transpeople I've met have really tended to blend in.
In some ways this is just height. FtM transpeople tend to be shorter than other males. I can speak from experience that shorter men are not noticed as much as taller ones. Conversely, MtF transpeople tend to be taller on average than other women, and this is noticeable.
However, the fact that MtF transpeople are going from Same to Other and FtM transpeople are going from Other to Same has got to play a role. Put another way, if you're joining the "default person category", you tend to blend in more than if you're leaving it.
Finally, there's all the stuff about women being judged more on appearance than men which I also think allows FtM transpeople to be inconspicuous.
Or so it all seems to me. I go from Other to Same and back every time I take a trip to various parts of Asia, and I definitely notice the difference in how I'm treated, or even noticed.
