And yet:

http://www.alibris.com/search/books/isbn/9780756669782

I smell a customer-provided image. (Sadly, once Amazon has it, you can't trust a lot of other sites, who just pull covers from Amazon.)

Yeah, the whole thing is complicated by the fact that there's a UK edition and a US edition. The UK edition (9781405357876) has it spelled "EGYPT", with a slightly different photo. That seems to be consistent across all the sites I've looked at, although there might be one I haven't caught somewhere. The US edition (9780756669782) is correct on Barnes and Noble's site, as well as Powell's.

So the error does look local to Amazon and its affiliated companies, like Book Depository.

[livejournal.com profile] bedfull_o_books says that Amazon is very bad about updating anything. They may have gotten an early version with the typo and never corrected it when the publisher sent an update, unlike B&N and Powell's. (Note: She is not speaking as an employee of the publishing group, merely as an observer over my shoulder.)

I absolutely *could not see* the problem, even after reading the first three comments (surrealestate hadn't posted) and following rfrancis' link. Bear figured it out for me though.

It took me a while to see it, too. My brain apparently has a really good auto-correct feature.

Ditto. I was wondering if "eyewitness travel" was somehow weird...

It took me a surprisingly long time to realize what was wrong.

I had assumed that the cover image had been photoshopped to show all of the pyramids together, in some aesthetically pleasing but physically impossible way (à la National Geographic).
