I was reminded today that Mid-Autumn Festival was coming by the big stacks of mooncakes on sale at Super 88 Market. In fact, they were discounted, which made me wonder if I'd missed it already. So I thought I'd check the date, which Wikipedia says is October 3 this year.

One of the other things the page has is a list of cultural or regional customs. This includes one I've never even heard of:

"Putting pomelo rinds on one's head"

Has anyone else ever heard of this? Is there any significance, other than "It's goofy"?

That reminds me strongly of the helmets used in some scifi media that I can't remember the name of. Except the helmets were shiny and blue, with black webbing between the 4 panels. I wonder if the helmets were inspired by this sort of thing?

Hehe. It's cute, but I have no idea why.
Yeah, I went to the chinese supermarket (Marina foods) and there were a gazillion people hawking various types of mooncake to try. Next weekend I shall wander doing taste tests.
