Post hole digger/digging bar rental.

Anyone know how much it costs to rent a post hole digger? Or a digging bar? (I don't actually think this particular job needs a power auger.)

Home Despot has tool rentals but they don't list digging bars or post hole diggers (the manual kind) on their website. Your best bet is probably to call the store nearest where you want to do the job and see which hole digging options they actually have, prices, and whether you'll have to show up first thing in the freaking morning to get a chance on getting what you want. (That's definitely the case with some things, there, and I don't _think_ they do reservations.)

PS: Or I could get a post hole digger and I could then be that person who has one for people to borrow. Because as you've pointed out, there's usually no point to having one around.

Then again, I have been scheming to plant more trees and A SHRUBBERY, I'll buy one if it's the best choice?

You need a decent shovel for trees and shrubs, they need big wide holes. But I cannot imagine that a post hole digger is worth renting, they are like $20?

Hmm. True. I forget what r_ness was looking at that said post-hole diggers were never worth buying-- it may have been presuming you'd rent a nice one, but even the nice ones are 50-75. My family has used the same damn 25 dollar one for a generation now. If only they weren't in Ohio.

Yeah, I thought they were about $25, but looking around the prices I'm seeing are more like $50.
