So, I have two shirts which have stains. Mostly, I think it's that dirt is adhering to the sticky bits that held the clear, peel-off size labels on.

In any case, they've been through the wash a couple of times and nothing's taken them off. Anyone have any pointers to someone, professional or not, who can get these stains off my shirt? They're right on the front pocket, so they're really obvious. Otherwise the shirts are fine.

Thanks in advance!

If the stains are indeed from the sticky label bits, you might try Goo-Gone, a citrus-based spot remover/cleanser. It comes in a spray bottle as well as a smaller bottle that you can dab on the spots in a controlled manner. I have both sorts here at the Big Blue House.

My second thought would be, if goo gone doesn't work, to spray the spots heavily with hairspray, let it dry, and then wash and see if the spot comes out. This works for some spots that are adhering to, rather than actually staining, the fabric such as ball point pen.

I've used hairspray quite effectively for ball point pen, but haven't tried it for other substances. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you're offering, I'll be glad to come out and try.

If it's sticky labels gum, try rubbing alcohol.

As always, test it on a non-obvious part of the shirt to make sure it doesn't make things worse.

I second the goo-gone recommendation. I believe there's a similar product, maybe goof-off?, that is more specifically marketed for fabrics. I have no idea if it's actually any better for fabrics. Or what its name is, apparently.

A nice vest covers up a multitude of sins stains.

I've got some detergent meant for removing various impurities from fabric before dyeing; it's possible that may be of use.

might just be easier to have a new pocket sewn for them. a nice contrasting color. Relatively easy to rip out a front pocket and re-sew.
