I tend to meet the world expecting that most people are not going to fuck me over, and if it's not a real imposition, people are generally helpful. When they are not helpful, it's not usually out of malice or spite - usually it's ennui or inattention. In greeting the world this way, for the most part, this seems to be what I get back; people helping me with luggage, people driving me home, strangers helping out, etc.

The problem with this is that, if you take it for granted that people are going to help you, then you may drain your friends or wear them out, at which point they will begin avoiding you because they don't want to be taken for granted anymore.
