Something good came of my dithering.

SriLankan Airlines cut the airfare. By 40 AED, or about $11, but no complaints from me.

That made it even easier to decide than before, so now my flights look like this:

I am. But I'm going to India via Sri Lanka and flying out via Nepal

I still need to buy those tickets, but there are lots of options. Also the flight across the Palk Strait is short. There used to be a ferry, which I totally would have taken instead.
