So, if you ever get here for Holi, there are some very useful practical tips that were in a couple of articles in the SpiceJet inflight magazine. I'm going to mail the magazine home, so if it makes it back I can show you the article in person, but in case it doesn't, the tips boil down to this:
Keep your skin safe: Holi colors sold commercially are now made of oxidized metals or industrial dyes, all of which are toxic. Cover your exposed skin with coconut, olive, or mustard oil, and dip your fingers and toes in it to protect the cuticles. Cold cream or Vaseline can also be useful to cover your face, neck, and arms. Wear clothes which cover most of your body. (I'd add: and which you intend to throw away afterwards.)
Keep your hair healthy: Tie your hair and cover it with a bandana or cap to avoid direct contact of the colors with your hair.
Have saline ready to flush your eyes if color gets into them.
Hope this doesn't sound like too much of a downer! It's too bad they don't use flowers and herbal colors, as they did in the past!
