We have a Mimio whiteboard capture device at work, and when you write with the capture pens they buzz, but only some of us can hear it. This irritates the person teaching the course with the system (who can't hear it), amuses the hell out of her student employee (who can), and utterly befuddles my boss (who can't hear it either). I can sort of hear it.
And thus I go and try this...
...yup, it's very similar to the noise our Mimio pens make. This one's very quiet though. I do think I'm starting to lose this sound.
I felt so much better when I found out this was a thing, and that it wasn't unusual that I could hear CRTs that were running but had a blank screen. My parents always thought that was odd, but they both have some noise exposure hearing loss.
I remember the first time I heard that the TV whine was something older people stopped being able to hear--I must have been at least 7, watching some science show on public TV--I wondered when I'd stop being able to hear it myself. Not yet, I guess.
