Someone has reported my Facebook account.

I figured this would happen at some point. I suspect someone who isn't one of my friends, but someone who either saw one of my public posts or saw a comment of mine somewhere.

I am irritated, particularly at the person who reported me, whoever they are. This was not, however, unexpected.

I have a number of options at this point, but I may not be back on Facebook for a while.

I backed up a list of friends not too long ago, so that part isn't much of a problem. I do have to consider whether I want to continue using Facebook given that my preferred name is vulnerable to attack in this way.

It does, although as I said I am not surprised.

What I'm now doing is updating all my contact information for the hundred or so people on my Facebook friends list. I had a habit of backing up my friends list periodically and there were only a couple of new friends since the last update, both of which I remembered.

There are a few people I will need to ask other people to contact for me, but as I'm looking through it it seems my records are remarkably up-to-date.

I am guessing for violation of their stupid "real names" policy, which mostly gets talked about when they tell a trans woman she has to use the name on her birth certificate, or can't handle that millions of people really do have only one name. But something that won't accept that "Srinivasan" or "Suharto" can be a person's entire name is also going to flag a name like Randomness.

Yeah, what got reported, did they tell you? I can't imagine anything you posted was in any way offensive. Perhaps it was in error, they hid the post and accidentally clicked report post. Good luck getting it straightened out.

I have two Facebook accounts, both under the same name (different email addresses, however).

One is for people at work, and a few relatives. I never log into that one, and wish it would just Go Away.

The other one is for occultists. I never post to that one, either, and only keep it for the sake of instant messaging, and occasionally participating in a couple of private Groups.

Facebook's privacy system is such an ever-shifting mess that I would never trust it to keep those compartments completely separate.

Facebook caters to (a) extroverts and (b) advertisers. I hate it, but what can one do?
