"Classic" Lays potato chips, in nori (Japanese seaweed) flavor, found in a 7-Eleven in Bangkok. Also, the Lays potato chip logo looks quite strange in Thai script.

The Girl from Ipanema, playing in the beachside restaurant of our hotel on Koh Samui.

Salsa blaring loudly from the speakers of Il Duomo, an Italian restaurant on Chaweng Beach, again on Samui island.

The incredible density of 7-Elevens in Bangkok is still one of the primary impressions I carry around of that city. I was prepared, via China, for american fast food to be everywhere, but I hadn't realized just how much the american convenience store had taken off.

So, one reason why 7-Eleven (and its Japanese (?) competitor Family Mart) have taken off is that they're *air conditioned*. Ah, what a blessing. And what incredibly smart marketing.
